DeskrifansDerelict Waterwheel - geograph.org.uk - 567146.jpg |
English: Derelict Waterwheel This used to be the location of a large waterwheel of which only the metal axle now remains. It utilises water brought across the valley on the Treffry Viaduct and originally provided power to haul wagons up the tramway incline from the valley floor onto the high level part of the tramway which crosses the valley on the viaduct. Around 1847 when the new mineral railway was built along this valley the tramway became redundant and this facility was refitted to power the processing of china clay. The mill eventually closed in 1914. |
