English: Clive Shaft engine house, Talargoch Mine Direction is a guess based on the other photo on the site. Location is accurate.
This building looks deceptively small but was built in 1862 to house a 100" Cornish-type beam pumping engine built by the Haigh Foundry, Wigan. This monster had an 85 ton beam. When photographed in 1986 it was unusually complete with roof and weather boarding at the front (shaft-side). The mine closed in 1883 and the engine was sold the following year for a mere £1000.
